Covid-19 Update

While operating under strict policies and procedures set by Los Angeles County Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Centro has opened its doors again and welcomes back our family and friends.

When entering Centro’s facility all children, staff, and visitors must have their temperature taken. During on-site learning, social distancing is practiced with children. Each child is to use their own individual materials throughout each day. Sanitary precautions are taken, while food services conform to CDC guidelines as well.

We continue to provide a creative, vigorous and exceptional learning environment.

At the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic, after a brief closure, Centro pivoted to continue providing care to children of essential workers. Centro followed strict CDC guided health and safety protocols to continue its programming. Cento provided vital information to families on how to access health services in the community and with that in mind, developed townhalls to provide much needed Covid-19 information to the community. Centro presented three town halls, with the first titled Covid-19: The Vaccine and Me. This town hall was presented in Spanish with support from Univision 34 and Dr. Aliza Lifshitz. It was an innovation to provide this essential information in Spanish, the virtual townhall was well attended and addressed many questions and myths surrounding the vaccine. The second town hall focused on the experience of teenagers in the Pandemic and featured a panel of diverse teenagers. The teens honestly expressed how isolation was affecting their healthy development and how they found solace during Covid. They found community with each other and the viewers and was moderated by Senator Marta Escutia; How Covid-19 Has Changed My Life was a close look into the lives of youth during this turbulent time. The final town hall focused on Social/Emotional Learning Development in Distance Learning. The pandemic created the sudden need for educators to pivot quickly and provide engaging learning with limited resources. Child development experts and Dr. Alma Guerrero were able to provide information and resources for families and educators working in a new virtual space to provide learning. This town hall created the opportunity to explore the challenges, obstacles and opportunities that came with distance learning.
